IT-heavy offices need a different approach
Reading's business parks are home to many technology, telecoms and professional services firms. When those offices close or shrink, the IT is worth more care than the furniture: laptops, phones, servers, storage arrays and network kit all hold data, and many still hold resale value.
We handle that stream through Premier IT Disposal. Every data-bearing device is logged by serial number, wiped to a recognised standard or physically shredded, and listed on a certificate. Equipment with resale value is refurbished and the return is reported back to you, which can offset a meaningful part of the clearance cost.
Where we work in Reading
We cover the town centre and the surrounding business parks, including:
- Green Park and Reading International Business Park, by M4 J11
- Thames Valley Park, by the A3290
- Forbury, Station Hill and the town centre
- Winnersh Triangle and Wokingham
- Theale, Bracknell and Newbury
Planning a clearance from 60 miles away
Reading is further from our Hampshire base than our other core areas, so we plan these jobs carefully. We survey first, agree a full inventory, and bring the right number of crew and vehicles to finish in as few days as possible. That keeps travel cost low and means you are not waiting for a van to come back for a second run.
Town centre buildings often have timed loading restrictions and shared goods lifts. We book these through your building manager and can work early mornings, evenings or weekends to fit around them.
What affects the price
Volume and access are the biggest factors, followed by how much needs dismantling and how much certified destruction is required. IT with resale value can bring the overall cost down, and reusable furniture is diverted before anything is recycled.
Reuse and donation of good furniture
Offices in Reading's business parks are often fitted with good-quality furniture that still has years of use left. Throwing it away is wasteful and, under the waste hierarchy, reuse should be considered before recycling or disposal. At the survey we identify items worth keeping in use, such as height-adjustable desks, task chairs, storage and meeting room furniture.
Those items are refurbished and resold or passed on, and the value is reflected in your quote. Everything else is separated by material. The result is a lower bill for you, less material going for treatment, and a clear record of where everything went if your sustainability or ESG team needs it.
Server rooms and comms cupboards
Many Reading offices still have an on-site server room or comms cupboard, even after moving most systems to the cloud. Before we remove anything, your IT team or provider should confirm that systems are shut down and data has been migrated. We then decommission racks, remove UPS units and batteries safely, and take storage drives under chain of custody for wiping or shredding.
Batteries and UPS units are handled separately from other electronics, as they need specialist recycling. Everything appears on your asset report so there is a clear record of each device.
